The Business Minor application is available online in winter term and is due March 31.
We highly recommend that you submit your application several days before the deadline to give yourself peace of mind. We will send you a confirmation email within 24 hours of receiving your application.
All applicants to the Business Minor must complete the following requirements by the end of the winter term in the year they apply. We access and evaluate applicants' U-M transcripts after winter term grades have been posted. Any transfer or test credits you wish to have considered must appear on your U-M transcript by the end of the winter term.
MATH 105 credit or above
First-Year Writing Requirement as approved through the LSA Sweetland Center for Writing, UARTS 150, ARTDES 129, or ENGR 100
Includes transfer credit for any course approved as First-Year Writing at U-M (not departmental credit, e.g., ENGLISH 101X or ENGCMPTC 101X).
You must also complete ECON 101, Principles of Economics, by graduation. See the curriculum for details.
You must have junior standing (55 CTP +) at a degree-seeking institution by the end of the winter term in which you are applying. We strongly encourage you to apply in the winter term of your sophomore year.
Applying as a first-year student is generally not encouraged. However, we do consider first-year students with 55 CTP + and studio or practicum requirements, such as those with the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance; Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design; Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning; Dental Hygiene Program; and School of Nursing.
Students from all schools and majors are encouraged to apply. We strive to ensure that the Business Minor reflects all aspects of the university.
Keep in mind that the Business Minor has only one admission cycle each year.
Provide responses to both of the following essay prompts. The Business Minor attracts many students with similar academic records of success — these essays are your chance to stand out from the crowd. We truly enjoy reading them.
Make sure you have uploaded the correct essays and resume. Resumes must be in a Word doc or PDF format. We will not accept websites or other portfolios in lieu of a resume.
If you have a unique personal circumstance, such as a major illness or personal tragedy (whether related to COVID-19 or not), that has had a significant effect on your application credentials, please utilize the optional essay in the Minor admission application to describe your situation. If a similar situation arises after the submission of your Minor application, we will allow you to submit this optional essay to our RossUndergrad@umich.edu email account.
