Call For Nominations: Annual Michigan Ross Alumni Awards

Each year, Michigan Ross celebrates two alumni who have made outstanding contributions to both the Ross community and the business world at large — and the time has come for Ross alumni to once again nominate their peers for consideration of this great honor.

There are two awards given out each year, with recipients being honored at the Homecoming and Reunion celebrations to be held on campus in October. The nomination deadline is Friday, June 21, 2019.

Bert F Wertman Alumni Service Award

The Bert F Wertman Alumni Service Award recognizes an alum for their outstanding service to Michigan Ross and or the University of Michigan as a whole. The award was established in honor of Bert F. Wertman, who served for more than 60 years as president of the Class of 1928. Through his leadership and caring, the class remained a cohesive and vital group and held a record number of continuous reunions.

Last year’s winner was Catherine Bessant, BBA ‘82, who serves as the chief operations and technology officer at Bank of America. She is ranked No. 1 on Institutional Investor magazine’s annual Tech 50 list of financial technology leaders recognized for their achievements and innovation, and No. 3 among American Banker’s “25 Most Powerful Women in Banking.” She also appears on Working Mother magazine’s “50 Most Powerful Working Moms” list of 2017.

At Ross, Bessant is a very active contributor and volunteer of her time, offering mentorship and one-on-one coaching to students to the Ross Alumni in Residence program, serving on the Ross School Advisory Board, and accompanying a group of students to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro as part of a recent global practicum course led by Scott DeRue, the Edward J Frey Dean of Michigan Ross.
