Meet the Accomplished New Michigan Ross Students Redefining Their Professional Careers


A women’s national boxing champion. A United Nations soldier. A climber who conquered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. The students in the Master of Management Class of 2018 show there are many paths to excellence.

The Michigan Ross MM program always attracts a diverse student body, and this year is no exception: The 80 students entering the program this week are coming to Ross with 20 different undergraduate degrees –– ranging from music to engineering –– and they speak 20 different languages!

Together, they’re about to embark on a 10-month program that will add business fundamentals to their already impressive academic and professional careers.

What amazing feats have these students accomplished?

  • Raised $30,000 for victims of flooding in Pakistan

  • Studied geothermal energy in Poland

  • Served as an interpreter and soldier for the United Nations

  • Implemented the 6S (six sigma) concept for a lean manufacturing project in one of the largest jewelry manufacturers in Bali

  • Researched women’s health care in South Africa

  • Climbed Mt. Vesuvius in Italy and Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa

  • Started a company selling retail textile electrical and electronics, generating $350,000 in 17 months

  • Edited written submissions from inmates in Michigan prisons to be published in annual publication of Michigan Review of Prisoner Creative Writing

  • Interned for Kamala Harris for U.S. Senate campaign

  • Earned two NCAA All-American 2016 titles in the 10,000 meters and 6,000 meters races
