Friday: How To Use Big Data to Change the World
He revolutionized the world of political campaigning by using big data to help President Barack Obama win re-election, and now Dan Wagner, CEO of Civis Analytics and former Chief Analytics Officer of Obama for America, is bringing his particular brand of innovation to the world of social impact.
Wagner will be here at Ross on Friday, April 18 to discuss how he’s using big data to help drive social change. His talk will take place at 11:00 a.m. in Blau Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

Wagner’s current work, as he recently explained to Businessweek, is focused on using data to improve access to higher-quality education for low-income students. His company was also involved in targeting the uninsured to educate them about enrollment in healthcare plans related to the Affordable Care Act.
“The unfortunate thing about the hype [surrounding big data] is that people are thinking about the process, not about the outcomes,” Wagner said in Businessweek. “The big question is, what are you going to do with that information that’s actually going to improve people’s lives?”
To find out how Wagner answers that question, you can register for his free event, and be sure to follow along on Twitter with #RossTalks.
