Barbara M. Erb, a philanthropist who with her late husband Frederick A. Erb, BBA ’47, helped create U-M’s Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise, passed away Nov. 8.

"We were saddened to hear of Barbara's passing and our thoughts are with her loved ones at this time," said Alison Davis-Blake, dean of the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business.  "Both she and her husband made a profound impact, not only on our educational offerings here at Ross, but on society as a whole, and we are forever grateful for their vision and generosity."

After years of philanthropic giving, Barbara and Fred made one of their first major gifts to the University of Michigan in 1996, forming the Frederick A. and Barbara M. Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise, a joint degree program between Ross and the School of Natural Resources and Environment.

In 2007, Barbara and Fred established the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation to nurture environmentally friendly and culturally vibrant communities in metro Detroit and to support initiatives to restore the Great Lakes Basin.

The Erb Institute has set up a remembrance page for Barbara Erb.
