U-M Ross LEADs High-Potential Youth to World of Business Opportunities

At Ross we develop leaders who make a positive difference in the world. That’s the core of our mission and an incredibly important message to share with young people. However, it’s not enough to just talk about it. At Ross, we take action. One great example of that is the LEAD program.

This week, Ross welcomed 30 high school seniors from across the country to participate in LEAD (Leadership Education and Development), which is a three-week-long program that aims to broaden the horizons and opportunities for diverse, high-potential youth.

The students will spend their time at Ross learning from professors and meeting with the local business and non-profit leaders to hear first-hand what it takes to run successful organizations, realize their potential, and meet their aspirational goals.

With classes from world-class Ross faculty ranging everywhere from stock trading to entrepreneurship and operations management to ethics, the LEAD students will leave Ross with a holistic view of the opportunities opened to those who pursue business education.

Students will also tour the Ann Arbor/Detroit-area facilities of PwC, Deloitte, and Google, learning from the executives of those companies the real-life implications of the lessons they’re learning from Ross faculty.

Joining forces with LEAD in 1981, U-M Ross’ participation is one of the longest-running of the eight business schools who take part in the program today.

LEAD bills itself as the “preeminent high school to college to career diversity pipeline in the country,” and in the 32 years Ross has been participating, more than 1,000 students have gone through the program with about 65 percent of those students pursuing business education and business careers after their experience.
