Welcome to the Global MBA Program application site. The Global MBA Program is designed to offer the most ideal MBA learning experience to sponsored students.

The Admission Committee seeks to bring together talented students from a broad range of academic and professional backgrounds. We welcome applicants from non-business fields such as medicine, law, and public administration. Applications are reviewed holistically; no single factor – e.g., GPA, GMAT and TOEFL scores, or years of work experience — determines the outcome.

In order to build a strong and diversified class, we look for applicants with following key characteristics:

  • Strong intellectual ability as measured by GMAT and academic record.
  • Leadership, initiative, and impact as evidenced through professional achievements, extracurricular activities, recommendation letters, and personal essays.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills as demonstrated through the recommendation letter, essays, and interviews.
  • Clear goals and rationale for pursuing an MBA as demonstrated through essays and interviews.
  • Fit with the Ross approach to management education as demonstrated through essays and interviews.

Courses in management are not required for application; however, you are expected to have the capacity to handle the intensity of our learning environment and should have solid analytical, quantitative, and communicative skills.

Once your application is received, we will confirm receipt via email. Then we will continue communicating with you to keep you up-to-date regarding the status.

Dates & Deadlines

  Application Due Decisions Released
Early Round October 31, 2017 Within approximately four weeks
Regular Round November 27, 2017 By December 25, 2017

  • If offered admission in the Early or Regular rounds, acceptance of the offer must be confirmed within one week. Those admitted in the Extended round must confirm acceptance within days of the offer.
  • Those admitted in the Early Round are required to submit a $1,000 non-refundable deposit.

Requirements

Below is a list of the application requirements. The Ross School conducts a holistic review of all application requirements. No single factor leads to either accepting or excluding an applicant from admission. Please note that the requirements below apply only to the Global MBA Program application.

SPONSORSHIP APPLICATION

  • The Global MBA Program is exclusively for sponsored applicants. Applicants should submit a signed sponsorship application prior to or along with the application.
  • Applicants are typically from large, internationally recognized companies; however, we welcome applicants from companies of all sizes.
  • Applicants who will lead a family business, as well as, established entrepreneurs and professionals, like lawyers and doctors, are also encouraged to apply.
  • If an applicant’s sponsor will guarantee sponsorship only after the applicant is granted admission, the applicant must submit an explanation in writing. If admitted, the sponsor must submit a sponsorship application within two weeks of the date of the admission offer.
  • Please upload your Sponsorship Application in the Additional Information section of the online application or send to Global MBA Admissions at rossgmba@umich.edu.

  • Ross' GRE reporting code is 1839. There is no code required for the GMAT. Request GMAC to send your score report to the University of Michigan.
  • Scores for both GMAT and GRE are valid for five years from the date you took the test to the date of the application deadline.
  • We encourage you to request ETS or GMAC to release your results to the Ross School before submitting your application.
  • If you have taken tests more than once, we will use your highest total score and the corresponding breakout scores in evaluating your qualification. We do not mix and match scores.
  • Applicants wanting to strengthen their application with improved scores may take additional tests through December 31, 2017. Please inform the Global MBA Office of future test dates at rossgmba@umich.edu. For tests taken by December 31, your application will be held until the results are reported to the University.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY ASSESSMENT

  • If your native language is not English, you must demonstrate competency in English by taking the TOEFL or PTE (Pearson Test of English).
  • Applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution where the sole language of instruction was English are exempt from the requirement. Those who have worked in the U.S. full-time for two or more years in the past five years are also exempt from the requirement.
  • For the TOEFL, we require the internet-based test (iBT) version of the exam. Ross’ TOEFL score reporting code is 1839.
  • Extended round applicants must take the TOEFL by December 20, 2017 to ensure the University receives official results by the application deadline.
  • PTE scores should be sent electronically to the University of Michigan. Select “University of Michigan – Ann Arbor” as the recipient.
  • We encourage applicants to take TOEFL. However, if you have already taken IELTS and scored 7.0 or higher, we will accept your official IELTS results. IELTS 6.5 or lower are not accepted. Those scoring 7.0 or higher should request the testing agency to submit your official report to:

  • Applicants wanting to strengthen their application with improved scores may take additional tests through December 20, 2017. Please inform the Global MBA Office of future test dates at rossgmba@umich.edu. For tests taken by December 20, your application will be held until the results are reported to the University.

  • Essay responses should be individually uploaded in the online application. Responses should be limited to the word maximums indicated.
  • Complete both required essays:
    • What is your desired career path and how can the Ross Global MBA help you achieve your goals? (up to 400 words)
    • What are you most proud of outside of your professional life? How does it shape who you are today? (up to 300 words)
  • Optional Statement

  • Select a recommender who can discuss your professional performance and work style. A current or former supervisor is an ideal choice. Other alternatives include a client, project manager, or professional mentor.
  • Once you register your recommender on the online application, an email will be sent to the recommender with instructions on how to access the recommendation form and submit it electronically.
  • For your information, below are the questions the recommender will be asked to respond to on your behalf:
    • Please provide a brief description of your interaction with the applicant and, if applicable, the applicant's role in your organization.
    • How does the performance of the applicant compare to that of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles? (For example, what are the applicant's principal strengths?)
  • In addition to these questions, the recommender will be asked to complete a ratings form which will also be submitted online as part of the process.

INTERVIEWS

  • Applicant’s qualifications will be assessed through two interviews; one interview focusing on the applicant’s managerial abilities and potential, and the other focusing on English proficiency.
  • Interviews are conducted in-person, by video-conference, or telephone call.
  • Interviews are typically arranged upon receipt of an application, but may be conducted at a mutually agreed to time and location such as information sessions, MBA fairs, or in program offices in Ann Arbor, Seoul, or Tokyo.
  • In-person interviews for those applying in the Regular round are tentatively scheduled in Tokyo December 3 – 5 and in Seoul December 7 – 9. Applicants in other locations will be interviewed via Skype in early December.
