Academy of Management Honors Three Michigan Ross Professors

Three faculty members at the Ross School of Business have been honored by the Academy of Management, a pre-eminent professional association for business school faculty and practitioners worldwide. 

Andy Hoffman

Andy Hoffman — Holcim (US) Inc. Professor of Sustainable Enterprise, professor of management and organizations, and professor of environment and sustainability — won several awards from the academy.

His book Management as a Calling won the Best Book Award from the Social Issues in Management Division of the academy. In addition, this book was a finalist for the prestigious George R. Terry Book Award, awarded to the “book judged to have made the most outstanding contribution to the global advancement of management knowledge during the last two years.”

Another recent book by Hoffman, The Engaged Scholar, was one of three Distinguished Winners of the Responsible Research in Management Award, sponsored by the Academy of Management Fellows. This honor “recognizes and celebrates recent research that benefits society by producing credible and useful knowledge.”

Finally, Hoffman’s article “Institutional-Political Scenarios for Anthropocene Society” was a finalist for the 2022 Business and Society Best Paper Award.

Tom Lyon

Tom Lyon — Dow Professor of Sustainable Science, Technology, and Commerce; professor of business economics and public policy; and professor of environment and sustainability — won the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Organizations and the Natural Environment Division of the academy. The award recognizes a prominent scholar whose contributions have been central to the development of the field of environmental management/sustainable business, and who has made a significant impact on ONE scholarship.

Allan Afuah

Allan Afuah, professor of strategy, received the Decade Award from the Academy of Management Review for his paper, coathored with Christopher Tucci of Imperial College Business School in London, "Crowdsourcing as a Solution to Distant Search." The Decade Award honors the paper with the greatest impact on research that the journal has published in the last 10 years.
