Collin

Class of 2021

Hometown: Cary, North Carolina

Hi everyone! My name is Collin and I’m a senior BBA concentrating in Finance. I’m originally from Cary, North Carolina, and I’m a huge fan of Carolina sports. I love the outdoors and have a lot of fun backpacking, camping, and skiing. Ask me about my summer job as a Park Guide at a high adventure ropes course back home! When I was deciding which university I would spend the next four years of my life attending, I made a tough choice between Michigan and other top universities.

Ultimately, however, I knew that U of M and Michigan Ross had the program that would best prepare me for my future in the business world. Looking back, I am so glad I made the right choice! My college experience has been amazing so far. The faculty at Michigan are leaders in their fields, compassionate, and are excellent instructors. I’ve never had a professor that I disliked. On top of that, there are so many incredible resources at Ross. I’ve spent countless hours in the Tozzi Center (Ross’ trading floor) learning Bloomberg and FactSet software and working on stock pitches for my investing club. Last year I participated in the Sanger Leadership Center’s Crisis Challenge, where myself and a group of seven others assumed the roles of C-suite executives in charge of a fictional water company.

The company faced public outrage over allegations that our pumping operations were polluting the groundwater and poisoning citizens. Within 24 hours, we were tasked with presenting a solution to the board of directors (volunteers who were real board members from real companies) and preparing ourselves to respond to the board’s questions. The simulation was extremely realistic, and although we didn’t win, the experience was incredibly rewarding. Opportunities like this are a huge reason why Ross and the University of Michigan are a step above other schools. I love chatting with prospective students and would love to share my experiences with you! Find me leading your (virtual) Michigan Ross tour.
