Andrew Hatfield

Class of 2018

I came to Michigan Ross to enact social change through positive business. I had three careers prior to Ross - an educator and entrepreneur in Japan, a firefighter and paramedic for the City of Dearborn, and a project manager for MSF/Doctors Without Borders internationally. Through these roles, I gradually learned it would take more than subject matter expertise and good intentions to respond to the world’s most challenging humanitarian crises. I chose a Ross MBA to improve my operational, analytical, and managerial capabilities while having access to the Center for Social Impact, the Center for Positive Organizations, and the William Davidson Institute. Two years wasn't enough, so I continued my education through consulting post MBA. Today, I'm proud to have realised my goals and kept to my social commitment - I've returned to the public/NGO sector and am leading a massive change management campaign designed to mitigate fraud and corruption within the Global Fund. I'm happy to discuss leveraging the Ross MBA for a career change, how to effectively recruit in the weekend program, how to juggle family and the WMBA, and offer advice for those coming from a non-traditional background.
